Rangers lead the way

Acquiring the know-why by living it.

Ranger is a military-grade, stoic, face-to-face acceleration and certification program. Its interdisciplinary adaptive experiential methodology develops a technically hybrid skillset for staying functional, a growth mindset for remaining resilient under extreme pressure and a primed mindset for being ready to react.

Cyber incidents resemble irregular warfare and employ tactics associated with guerrilla warfare. Security frontliners must prepare for the unknown in an extremely dynamic environment. Dealing with uncertainty requires flexibility; combining offensive and defensive perspectives makes it possible to see connections, form correlations, think beyond familiar patterns and solve a wider range of problems.

Mental toughness and the ability to adapt provide flexibility at the human level. Cyber Struggle focuses on “acquiring the know-why,” not merely learning it. Acquisition comes through exposure to real problems, which triggers capability focused on remaining functional.

The program therefore moves beyond “learning the know-how by doing” toward “acquiring the know-why by living.” Critical thinking, learning how to learn and leaving no one behind are central throughout the experience.

We bring the rigor and ethos of special forces into the cyber world through the Ranger acceleration program.

02 / Testimonials

The Ranger experience

Built through pressure. Remembered for life.

Five perspectives from professionals who experienced the program’s technical, psychological and team dimensions.

That is what I call a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It is the real-world version of the movie The Game (1997), and it gives you a profession as well. Cyber Struggle Ranger is not only a course or certification; it is the best experience ever.

It was the most unusual period of my life: staying alert, keeping watch from three to five in the morning, seeing your computer as your weapon and being able to sleep everywhere except your bed. It moves you out of your comfort zone, yet somehow you are happy to be there—and you worry about losing what you achieved after the training ends.

Education requires tremendous love and commitment. I congratulate the team, and we consider it our responsibility to provide every form of support we can to such an important project. We were thinking about the necessity of this approach; they were the ones who had the courage to make it real.

Attending this certification with teammates from work completely changed the atmosphere in our company. We now look after one another. I already miss the Cyber Struggle family—the atmosphere during the certification, my friends and the music.

03 / Methodology

Eight operating principles

Readiness is built as a system.

Technical depth and human capability are developed together, under conditions that require action, reflection and repeated adaptation.

  1. 01

    Hybrid technical skills

Develop offensive awareness alongside defensive, hunting and detection capability so decisions are not constrained by a single specialty.

  2. 02

    Interdisciplinary coverage

Connect cybersecurity with terrorism, war, intelligence and psychological-warfare studies to understand hostile operations in context.

  3. 03

    Extremely performance-based

Move beyond conventional instruction through intensive hands-on work where mistakes and failure become part of skill acquisition.

  4. 04

    Adaptive experiential skill acquisition

Work through immersive hacking, detection engineering, incident investigation, malware analysis, network and memory-forensics scenarios.

  5. 05

    Reporting and accountability

Translate technical execution into accurate, detailed reporting that makes decisions, evidence and responsibility visible.

  6. 06

    Functional

Acquire the know-why behind the work, strengthening problem-solving and critical thinking instead of relying on memorized procedures.

  7. 07

    Uncertainty, resilience and growth

Use controlled uncertainty to develop adaptability, decision quality and the ability to remain effective under sustained pressure.

  8. 08

    SQ = IQ + EQ

Build a broader readiness quotient by combining analytical intelligence with emotional awareness, teamwork and leadership.

04 / Field exercises

Mind is the primary weapon

Capability outside the comfort zone.

Field exercises with special-forces practitioners strengthen mental resilience, critical thinking, teamwork, leadership, initiative and problem-solving. They are designed to prepare participants to perform at their best regardless of how intense the pressure becomes.

Field exercises constitute 10% of the BootCamp, but the entire program develops these human capabilities alongside technical skills. The goal is to push participants toward new levels of capability and readiness as part of the “functional, resilient, primed” approach.

“Leave no one behind” is not a slogan. Team consciousness and individual accountability are evaluated as operational skills.

Enabled by S46

Every task. One operational picture.

Labs, tasks, incidents and participant support are coordinated through the S46 Simulation Software. After enrollment, each participant receives an account, guides and further instructions, making execution and progress visible throughout the experience.

  • Maintain an effective performance state under intense pressure.
  • Correlate criminology, profiling and terrorism studies with the cyber domain.
06 / Interdisciplinary coverage

Distribution of matters

One mission. Four dimensions.

The program gives offensive and SOC topics equal technical weight, then reinforces them through social sciences and field-based human capability development.

Application process

  1. 01

    Select an upcoming program

Choose a charter and an upcoming certification cohort based on its location, dates and delivery format.

  2. 02

    Complete the application form

Provide every requested detail. Applications with incomplete fields are not considered.

  3. 03

    Application evaluation

Shortlisted applicants are contacted for a telephone or online interview. In limited cases, candidates may be invited to meet in person.

  4. 04

    Confirmation

Successful applicants receive attendance confirmation and payment instructions. Withdrawal after confirmation should be limited to significant circumstances.

08 / Examination

Hell Week

Execution is the evidence.

Certification requires technical execution, investigation, interdisciplinary thinking and performance in field exercises.

  1. 01

    Offensive part

The offensive examination uses five servers. Candidates are expected to gain root access on at least four, conduct a penetration test against an existing web application and finalize the testing report.

  2. 02

    Investigative part

Candidates analyze supplied logs, malware, shellcode and network traffic from a SOC analyst perspective, then prepare a general report describing the root cause.

  3. 03

    Hybrid article

Candidates write a complete article applying or correlating social sciences and complementary disciplines with cybersecurity. It should present or critique an opinion, or propose a new way of thinking, without being constrained to a formal academic or newspaper style.

  4. 04

    Field exercises

Candidates test and develop their mental capability by pushing their personal limits. Withdrawing during the field exercise prevents certification.

09 / FAQ

Before you apply

Questions, answered directly.

Can I continue working during the program?

It is possible, but the program is deliberately intensive and requires exceptional discipline, dedication and time management.

Is this a conventional instructor-led course?

No. Managers, supervisors and instructors coach, observe and provide direction, but the experience is built around participant execution rather than lecture-heavy teaching.

What are the prerequisites?

Candidates should understand basic scripting and automation, networking and common services, the web, and fundamental Linux and Windows administration.

Is Ranger available as an online-only program?

No. Ranger is designed as a face-to-face experience. Some weekday work may be completed online in the extended format, while the core program remains in person.

How is pricing determined?

Pricing varies by country and the charter delivering the program. Contact Cyber Struggle for the current location-specific information.

Will I be required to write reports?

Extensively. Participants write reports, debriefs and notes during both the program and the examination. Reporting is treated as an operational product; clarity, accountability and ownership are essential.

Are conventional course materials provided?

Ranger is simulation-led rather than built around conventional course PDFs. S46 manages the process and assigns tasks as they would be assigned in a working environment. Participants can use appropriate independent resources to complete their work on time.

Is the program only for government personnel?

No. More than half of past participants have come from the private sector, including banks, managed security service providers and telecommunications companies.
